spacer
This program provides financial assistance to families seeking self-sufficiency through employment and to children in the care of relatives.

Who is eligible?
A low-income household in which a child is deprived due to:

  • absence of one or both parents
  • death of one or both parents
  • incapacitation of one or both parents
  • unemployment or underemployment of one or both parents

Important
It is important to remember that there is a FIVE (5) YEAR LIFETIME LIMIT on receiving Temporary Cash Assistance.

Employment Requirements

  • As an applicant for TCA, you will be expected to participate in up-front job search, unless an exemption exists for your case. You will need to look for a job while your application for TCA and Child Support are being processed.
  • During your job search you are required to have five (5) in-person job contacts every week.
  • You will be given a job journal to document your in-person job contacts. Your case manager will assign you an appointment weekly to return the journal.
  • Your case manager will assign a date for you to participate in the Bridges Class. This class is a five (5) day job readiness class that runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • You are required to register with the Employment Resource Center located at our Agency.
  • Ten in-person job contacts are required if you are re-applying for TCA.
  • If you are not successful in your job search, you may be re-assigned to a work experience job site.
  • If you are offered a job of 30 hours a week or more at minimum wage or above, you must accept it and notify your case manager within five (5) days of beginning employment.
  • Your case manager will discuss Child Care Assistance available through the Department.

The Electronic Benefit Transfer System (EBTS):
The Electronic Benefit Transfer System (EBTS) allows recipients to access their Cash Assistance and/or Food Stamp benefits through the use of an ATM card at designated ATM machines at banks and in grocery stores. On-site training is available each day for customers to access their accounts.

    How do I apply?
You may apply for Temorary Cash Assistance at our Office Monday through Friday 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
